Is
this a virtual, web-based program?
No,
the Meridian program is not a web-based service offering. In fact, a program
participant does not even have to own a computer to obtain services. Participants
are partnered with a personal coach who takes a proactive approach to
helping him or her meet their transition goals. All coaching is provided
by telephone and video conferencing making it convenient for a participant
to obtain the support and motivation they need and desire.
Don't
outplacement participants need an office to go to in order to conduct
an effective search?
At
one time, it was necessary for people to visit an outplacement office
to get the services and advice they needed to find another job. However,
with the growth of home offices, computer, and the Internet, more and
more participants are staying away. At Meridian, we have observed this
shift and have moved to respond to it by creating a set of services that
are portable yet more effective than the traditional way of providing
services.
Is
telephone coaching as effective as face-to-face?
Yes.
A properly trained and prepared career coach can be just as effective
by telephone as they are in person. Plus, telephone conversations tend
to be more focused on the issues at hand and allow for a better utilization
of the participant's time. In this way, more time is spent dealing with
critical job search issues making for a more effective search.
Can you come to
the company location and meet with affected employees on the day of termination?
Yes. However, we
know from experience that this is not really the best way to introduce
a recently separated employee to the outplacement process. In most cases,
emotions tend to cloud clear thinking and reason and an awkward and embarrassing
encounter ensues. We believe the affected employee should be given the
appropriate written information at the time of separation, then be contacted
by phone. This allows for a more rational discussion in a less threatening
environment. Therefore, we have eliminated this step and the accompanying
cost. However, if a company requests our presence, we will arrange to
be onsite for a small additional fee.
